WE TALK TO YOU, NOT JUST YOUR PARENTS

You're not along for the ride here. You're part of the team.

If you're a teenager reading this, this section is for you.

We know you probably didn't ask to be here. Maybe your parents noticed something, maybe your dentist recommended it, maybe you've been curious about your smile for a while. Whatever brought you here, we want you to know something from the start: we're going to talk to you directly.

Not just to your parents. To you.

You're the one in the chair. You're the one who wears the appliance, keeps up with the hygiene, and shows up to appointments. That means you deserve to understand exactly what's happening, why we're doing it, and what your role is in getting there. We'll explain all of it, and we'll answer every question you have, whether it's about how long this takes, whether it's going to hurt, or what happens if you lose a retainer.

FOR PARENTS

Communication Matters Throughout Treatment.

We know what you're wondering. Will this be done right? Will she actually listen to my child? Will we know what's happening throughout treatment?

Yes, yes, and yes.

Dr. Bullwinkel personally conducts every clinical exam and reviews every case at every appointment. She communicates with parents directly at each visit so you always know where treatment stands, what's been accomplished, and what comes next. You are always welcome to come back into the clinic, ask questions, and see how things are progressing. Our door is open, every time.

We believe the best outcomes happen when patients, parents, and provider are all working from the same understanding. That's not just a philosophy. It's how we run every appointment.

ORTHODONTICS IS A TEAM SPORT

The More You Put In, The More You Get Out.

Here's the most important thing we'll tell you about treatment: the more you put in, the more you get out.

Orthodontics works on a simple principle. Consistent, gentle pressure moves teeth over time. When you do your part, whether that means wearing your elastics, keeping your teeth clean, showing up to your appointments, or wearing your aligners as directed, treatment moves efficiently. When you don't, it doesn't.

This isn't a threat. It's just how it works.

The teens who finish treatment fastest and with the best results are the ones who treat it like a team sport. They ask questions. They follow through. They show up. And when they cross the finish line, they did it because they chose to, not because someone made them.

"We can all do hard things. We've seen it in this practice more times than we can count."

THE FIRST TIME YOU GET TO OWN YOUR HEALTHCARE

Orthodontics Teaches More Than Tooth Movement.

Something happens during orthodontic treatment that doesn't get talked about enough.

For most teenagers, this is the first time in their life that they have a genuine ability to take ownership of an aspect of their own healthcare. Not a parent managing it for them. Not a doctor doing something to them. A real, active role in an outcome that directly affects them.

We take that seriously. We show our teen patients what we see, explain what we're planning and why, and invite them into the decision-making process at every step. We want them to ask their own questions, understand their own treatment, and see the direct connection between their effort and their result.

On a small scale, orthodontic treatment teaches something much larger. That you can do the work. That commitment to a process produces outcomes. That hard things are worth doing.

That's not something we say to motivate compliance. It's something we've watched happen, in chair after chair, over years of practice.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Real Answers to the Questions Teens Actually Ask.

  • Your teeth will feel pressure after your braces are placed and after each adjustment. That pressure means things are working. It typically settles within a day or two, and then daily life returns completely to normal. Most teens are surprised by how quickly they adjust.

  • That depends on your specific situation and, honestly, on you. Treatment length varies based on the complexity of your case and your compliance throughout. Dr. Bullwinkel will give you an honest timeline estimate at your consultation and keep you updated throughout treatment. The fastest path through is also the simplest one: do what we ask, show up to your appointments, and let the process work.

  • Life doesn't stop because you're in braces. Play your sport. Perform in your show. Go to your events. We provide mouthguards for patients in braces who play contact sports, and we'll make sure you have everything you need to protect your smile and keep doing what you love. There are no restrictions on living your life.

  • Both are excellent options for teens depending on your clinical situation and your commitment level. Clear aligners require consistent wear to work, and that's a real conversation worth having honestly before you start. We'll tell you which approach gives you the best path to the outcome you're after, and we'll factor in your lifestyle, your activities, and your goals.

AFTER TREATMENT

Finishing is worth celebrating. We celebrate it with you.

Keeping your result is the next commitment, and it's a simple one. We'll set you up with a retention plan that fits your situation, typically a fixed retainer on the lower front teeth and a removable upper retainer, and we'll explain exactly how to use it.

Smile Assurance

Every comprehensive patient at our practice is eligible for Smile Assurance, our retainer program that provides five retainers per year for five years following treatment. Retainers get lost. They get left on lunch trays. It happens. Smile Assurance means that never becomes a reason for your smile to shift. We've got you covered.

READY TO GET STARTED

Your First Consultation Is Complimentary, Unhurried, and Built Around You. Both of you.

We'll evaluate your smile, walk you through your options, and give you an honest picture of what treatment involves and what we'd expect from each other. No pressure. No rush. Just a real conversation about what's possible.
